Yayasan´s Donation to the Humanitarian Fund for the Indonesian Earthquake and Philippines Storm Victims

Indonesia and the Philippines were both struck by natural disasters last September, which left some areas in both countries devastated. Thousands of people were injured, killed and homeless as a result of the earthquake of magnitude 7.6 on the Richter Scale in several areas in Indonesia such as Tasikmalaya, Jawa Barat and Padang. Meanwhile in the Philippines, several areas were badly affected by the tropical storm Ketsana and 12 hours of continous raining causing massive floods and mudslides, forcing almost 3 million people to leave their wrecked homes and hundreds more who died from the catastrophe. The Philippines, still flooded from the previous huricane, was spared a second major disaster by Typhoons Parma and Melor on 4th October.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to the establishment of a relief fund named "Committee of the Humanitarian Fund for the Indonesian Earthquake and Philippines Storm Victims". The fund was launched by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports on Saturday, 20 Syawal 1430H corresponding to 10 October 2009.
To support the Humanitarian Fund for the Indonesian Earthquake and Philippine Storm Victims, Yayasan donated a total of B$100,000.00 in which B$50,000.00 will go to the Humanitarian Fund for the Indonesia Earthquake Victims and the other B$50,000.00 to the Humanitarian Fund for the Philippines Storm Victims. This event was held on 29 Zulhijjah 1430H corresponding to 17 December 2009 at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in Jalan Kebangsaan.
The donation was handed over by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The mock cheque was received by Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, in his capacity as the Co-Advisor of the Humanitarian Fund for the Indonesian Earthquake and Philippine Storm Victims.
A donation box has been placed at the Yayasan Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan to give access to the public to donate.
