The Launching Ceremony of the SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah for Orphans (DANA) 2009-2010

On Thursday, 15 Zulhijjah 1430H corresponding to 3 December 2009, the Launching Ceremony of the SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah for Orphans (DANA) 2009-2010 was held at the multi-purpose hall of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in Jalan Kebangsaan.

 

The objective of the SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA is to boost the sense of care and love amongst the people for the sake of the less fortunate especially the orphans. This project is one of the ways for DANA to reach out to people wanting to donate to the orphans in this country.

 

The SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA Project will run for a period of 2 months (60 days) from 3 December 2009 to 31 January 2010. To make this project a success, 2 telecommunation companies namely DST Group and B-Mobile Sdn. Bhd. have stepped in to provide the SMS services for the public who wish to contribute via SMS Brunei Prihatin. Benevolent donors can contribute either B$1.00, B$5.00, B$10.00, B$15.00 or $20.00 by typing ´DANA´ followed by the amount contributed, without any spaces in between the words. The SMS should be sent to 38111 for both DST and B-Mobile subscribers. For example: DANA5 (to donate B$5.00). B-Mobile users can also make their contributions through the wap portal.

 

Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) has also shown support for the SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA Project by updating the public on the latest amounts collected from time to time through RTB´s networks.

 

A total of B$109,981.00 was made from the previous SMS Brunei Prihatin 2008-2009. The donation amounting to B$71,691.00 was presented by Abdul Latiff bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Yusof, a member of DST Group´s Board of Directors, while the remaining B$38,290.00 was presented by Dato Paduka Haji Othman bin Haji Yaakub, B-Mobile Communications Director.

 

The event continued with the handover of 1,903 coupons to District Officers by Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, a member of DANA´s Board of Trustees. The coupons, B$50.00 each, will be distributed to the orphans and can be used to "buy" school stationery in every DANA-registered stores throughout the country.

 

The Excellent Student Incentive Award of DANA 2009 (AIPC-DANA 2009) was also held to recognise academic excellence achieved by the orphans in their public exams in 2008. The students receiving the awards are as follow:

Also present were the Radio Televisyen Brunei, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, DST Group and B-Mobile Sdn. Bhd. senior officers as well as some of the DANA generous donors.
